We didn’t ask for this
Hot heads cold hands and feet
Something switched on the light
We woke up and stirred to life
Why
I didn’t plan for this
The death of the life we shared
Two candles lit in a single flame
My light dimmed when yours pulled away
Why
I wonder how I’ll get up
I wonder how I’ll breathe
I wonder what you’re doing
I wonder if you grieve
Oh, You never used to need much
And now you’ve got no need for me
But nothing’s by design
And at least we get to try
My father bringing up
His children in the light
We’d throw the ball around
Before church single’s night
He hid his son from us
And gave us all his shame
And when we’d ask too much
He’d toss the ball away
I wonder how I’ll get up
I wonder how I’ll breathe
I wonder what you’re doing
I wonder if you grieve
Oh, you never used to need much
And now you’ve got no need for me
But nothing’s by design
And I will let it go in time
Hot heads cold hands and feet
Something switched on the light
We woke up and stirred to life
Why
I didn’t plan for this
The death of the life we shared
Two candles lit in a single flame
My light dimmed when yours pulled away
Why
I wonder how I’ll get up
I wonder how I’ll breathe
I wonder what you’re doing
I wonder if you grieve
Oh, You never used to need much
And now you’ve got no need for me
But nothing’s by design
And at least we get to try
My father bringing up
His children in the light
We’d throw the ball around
Before church single’s night

And gave us all his shame
And when we’d ask too much
